Currently running the sfc scan that was recommended earlier. I made lots of research but no one has the exact solution.
How satisfied are you with this response? I have had the since my last Dell which wasn’t on Windows 8. Additional to that when choosing Show hidden Icons on my Taskbar on wc bottom of the screen, all icons are moving as if there is a new item is coming and keeps flashing until I unplug the HDD.

I have the option to eject the drive and can open from the task but doesn’t show from MY Computer.

I do notice that this string calls out Win 8. In reply to Tarekb’s post on March 14, Run a test using DLG and see if it passort the test. Further, the fix is to run sfc at the command prompt. After that, go to WD website and get the universal frimware updater. I solved mine with the frimware update. Could not do anything further. Had a similar problem with a Passport Ultra 1gb that worked fine on Win7 but disconnected randomly in Win8.
I got a new computer and it as worked fine until tonight. So, plug your external using USB 2. Download pqssport, update WD frimware using the tool. In reply to dipeshtech’s post on December 15, Apparently, the problem is with the firmware of WD which needs an update, Now to update, you have to connect your hard passporr to a Windows 7 PC, download the new firmware from WD website and run it.
